My husband was sent here by my choice. He spent 27 days in Vanderbilt due to a simple procedure that was suppose to be outpatient...a biopsy...well we wound up being incubated for unforeseen circumstances so we are here to be weaned off the vent....learn to eat...walk and talk again. I stay with him six days and nights out of a week....We came in on March 27, 2017....The day crew for the most part seem to do the best they can for their patient load....good respiratory team during the day....your 7P to 7a is not qualified...when calling for a nurse, cnt or rt I get hung up on or my husband has to wait up to 20-30 minutes....I am so sorry I brought him here...I have not expressed my dissatifaction to administation at this time buy I assure you I am...I dont want to make things harder on him.....I (his wife) have done his bed pan...changed his bedpan....changed his bed pads...changed and cleaned his bedsore due to people not performing their job efficiently...I am writing this at 115am because Im afraid he will not get proper care so I will not go to sleep tonight due to rt and nurse do not know how to properly perform some care my husband needs....Someone needs...maybe joint commission...needs follow up on night shift immediately.....The speech therapist you have here is absolutely awesome....You do have a handful of great people here on night shift but you seriously need some retraining on patient care and cleanliness....my husband has had one bath since the 27th...I would like to know who to speak with that DOES NOT work in this facility....Thank you.
I've been trying to get over my cousin's passing at this place, but it stays on my mind, due to the fact that I feel this place didn't know how to care for her! It's been a few months since she passed, but I feel strongly about telling anyone to be very cautious with their loved ones at this place. And be sure to add anyone's name to speak on behalf of your loved one, in the case of their illness or death! Several family members knew my cousin's death was due to the facility not knowing how to care for her, but because our names wasn't listed to speak on her behalf, our concerns were ignored. So I beg anyone to pay close attention and moved their loved one if you have ANY doubt on how they're being taken care of! We were told she was too sick to be moved...I now wish that we would have moved her anyway!
My mother was sent there from Centennial Hospital after being in the C.C.U. for 16 days after she had surgery for "dead gut". As soon as I walked in, I knew we should have went elsewhere. The facility itself was very old looking, as was the equipment (such as the bed), very poor WiFi, visitors had to pay for their own food trays, & the place had a moldy smell. It had the feel of a run down nursing home with equipment sitting scattered throughout the hallways. The very 1st day my mother had to wait for 4 hours for a cup of water/crushed ice (which she was allowed to have at Centennial earlier that same day.) Also on the 1st day she was there the nurses wanted to get her up in a wheelchair for 2 hours (which is their standard procedure for all their patients) without even speaking to her doctor about it first. This doesn't sound like a big deal, except for the fact she hadn't sat up out of the bed in 16 days & hadn't hardly eaten anything in equally as long a time. I refused to let them sit her up that day until I could speak to her doctor the following day & got his opinion. He said it was fine, so they sat her up for half an hour & my mom said she felt like she was having a seizure so they put her back in bed. Then around 8:30 that night, she said she felt like she was having a heart attack, so both her nurse & the charge nurse came in, looked at her, gave her her night medicines & some gas medicine & at 10 that night her eyes became glossed over & her right side became unresponsive & I told the nurses, they came & looked at her & said "It's probably just her medicine making her unresponsive/sleepy." But two days before that at Centennial she was on Morphine & still responded to me anytime I asked her anything. It took them 5 days to do any extensive exams & at that point, it was too late to do anything. My momma passed away August 16th, 2016 at 8:30 p.m. To say their procedures/nurses need updating/better training is an understatement. One of the nurses didn't even know what they did with their corpses & told me I would need to call a funeral home at that moment to come get my mother because they didn't have a morgue. The only saving graces this place had was that it had a beautiful courtyard with lovely flowers, trees, a pond, & fish; a shower facility for families, & 4 wonderful nurses I encountered while there (Barry, Sherry with respiratory, 1 larger male physical therapist, & 1 larger female nurse, sadly I've forgotten both of their names). I would not recommend ANYONE to take their loved one here EVER.
They never answer the phone after 4:00pm
A place to get on your feet again. They are very helpful here. My brother in law had a heart attack and was taken to emergency he had a heart catheter and did not do well and was placed on respirator, dialysis, trek, feeding tube. He is recovering slowly and is getting a pacemaker before going to further rehabilitation. He has been in hospital for weeks. I sure hope he will be back on his feet again soon. God bless him and keep him in his care.
