History and sustainability emerge in Centennial park. It's one of my favorite places in the city. It's well loved by Nashvillians to be sure. If you walk over to the west side of the park you can get a view of the Nashville skyline.
I enjoyed touring this monument. I had been here I my college days but hadn't remembered the huge Athena statue. Then I found it hadn't been installed until the late 80s/1990. That explained it! It wasn't there the first time I visited. The signage is helpful and interesting. They close early at 4:30 pm and I for there at 4:00 so I didn't have as much time as I would have liked. I skimmed the displays in the hallways quickly so I could take more time on the upper floor.
The structure itself is pretty amazing and the history "there" and "here" are both amazing.
I went with no preconceived notions, just that we were going to this Parthenon rebuilt thing.
Ended up being well worth our time and definitely worth $6.
Beautiful grounds.
The statue was more than captivating, found I wanted to photograph it from every angle.
There's a documentary on how and why this place was made. Highly recommend watching the documentary before coming. I love the massive golden Athena inside. This place is a must visit for anyone that likes ancient things or buildings completely out of their element. Heads up- there's a charge to enter and be aware of the hours of operation, especially if you're visiting around a holiday.
The exhibit level oil paintings was a great time and I found one painting I will never get out of my head (you figure out which one that is for you).
The building is definitely impressive considering it is an exact replica of the original Parthenon in Greece. As a curiosity it will certainly draw you. The cost is reasonable at $6.00 and the statute of Athena is impressive to look at as your imagination can take you back to 456 BC, you imagine seeing it for the first time. They also have a collection of are work that is good. The variety is decent. Plan on at least 1 to 2 hours depending on your pace of course. If you have ever wondered the the Parthenon looks like, then this is something you will not want to miss! The information on the Parthenon itself is pretty informative as well as the history of the replica.
I was disappointed that pictures were not allowed on the lower floor so I couldn't photo some of the displays to view in more detail when I returned home.
Biggest take away,... Learning names of building parts from this era and construction style.
